Senior Golf Registrations being Refunded

On March 13, 2020, Friendship Centers of Emmet County closed to the public as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. Since that time, we have furloughed two-thirds of our staff. Our building remains closed to the public and the only service we are currently providing is Meals on Wheels. We do not know when we will be able to reopen and remain concerned about activities that mix congregating and seniors citizens.

As uncertainty lingers, we have decided that it is necessary to cancel our golf program for this season. While we have contemplated many options, it is difficult for us to justify providing this program when we cannot provide baths for seniors who need them, congregate meal service or foot care clinics.
Seniors remain the most vulnerable to COVID-19 and have the highest mortality rate among those infected. For this reason, we are charting our course very carefully. We are developing a phased approach to restoring services and activities to ensure the safety of seniors and staff.

For those of you who have already sent in your registration and money, we will be issuing refunds. I am so impressed with the robust participation of this program. We are hopeful that we can get back to a normal golf season next year.

Stay healthy and keep it in the fairway!

Sincerely,
Denneen Smith
Executive Director
