Friendship Centers of Emmet County will be distributing booklets of Project Fresh coupons to Emmet County seniors as part of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The program gives $20 coupon vouchers to eligible older adults to purchase Michigan-grown fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices and honey from farmers markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs. Residents of Emmet County, age 60 and older, are eligible if they meet the following monthly income guidelines: household size of one makes $1,872 or less; household size of 2 makes $2,538 or less; household size of 3 makes $3,204 or less. A limited number of coupon booklets are available this year, so they will be distributed on a first come-first serve basis.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program will be administered in a different method than is customary to ensure the safety of Emmet County seniors. With the uncertainty of these times, fresh food coupons may be a little delayed in getting into the hands of qualifying seniors.
At the end of May, Friendship Centers’ mailed an application with a postage paid return envelope to all of last year’s participants. For seniors to apply this year, these forms must be filled out completely including the proxy preference. The deadline for returning the applications will be June 15. After receiving your COMPLETED and SIGNED form, your name will be put on a list, in the order received, to have the coupon booklet mailed to you. No applications will be mailed early.
If you did not participate last year, but would like to this year (and qualify), notify Friendship Centers of Emmet County, Council on Aging, between June 1st and June 10th by calling (231) 347-3211, ext. 26 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. A blank application will be mailed to you, which must be COMPLETELY filled out and returned to Friendship Centers, 1322 Anderson Road, Petoskey by June 15.
Beginning June 30, the coupons and nutritional information will be mailed out to qualified applicants, using the address on the application, in the order received. If you do not receive a packet in the mail by the end of July it may mean coupons are no longer available. Patience is appreciated by not calling to check on your application until after July 31.
The Council on Aging is committed to give as many Senior Project Fresh coupon booklets to as many Emmet County seniors as possible and is thankful for your understanding.
