Waldron Fen Birding Event on Wednesday, May 11

We are heading back to this beautiful Waldron Fen preserve on Wednesday, May 11, and we are sure to see a variety of birds. More than 100 species reside or migrate through this preserve. Mary Trout, a local bird expert, together with Sarah Koetje, LTC Educator, will help us identify and learn about the winged creatures.

This easy trail around the fen is less than two miles. LTC is providing binoculars so hikers can get an up-close view.

Pack a lunch and the group will gather under the pavilion after the hike to relax in this pleasant environment.

Directions:
From Petoskey, head north on US-31 to Pickerel Lake Road. Follow it for 9.5 miles to Banwell Road and turn left. Continue on Banwell 3.25 miles to the entrance on the right. From Alanson, head east on M-68 to Banwell Road. Turn right. Continue on Banwell 3.3 miles to the opening on the left.

Hoogland Nature Preserve Hike on Wednesday, May 18

Join Sarah Koetje, Little Traverse Conservancy Educator, on another adventure. We hope to discover trillions of trilliums and other spring wildflowers dotting the forest floor.  The one-and-a-half-mile trail has some rolling ridges, making this a good walk for the more experienced hiker.

Directions:
From Harbor Springs, drive north on M-119 for 7.7 miles. At the base of the big hill you have just descended, you will turn a reasonably sharp corner to the right, and the parking area will soon appear on the right. Look for a small parking area and logo sign.
