Fitness Programs
In addition to our regular fitness programs, the Petoskey Friendship Center will host two new classes beginning April 3 & 4. Cardio Drumming will take place on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Stand or sit for this one-hour of fun led by Lynn Turner, Executive Director of Northern Michigan Drum Village. Tai Chi Class will take place on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. Learn the skills of the Yang Style Short Form in this one-hour class led by Todd Ackerman, certified group fitness instructor and Tai Chi master. No experience is necessary for these heart healthy classes.

Easter Luncheon
Hop on in to the Petoskey and Huber Senior Centers on Monday, April 22 for the annual Easter Luncheon. The menu includes chicken cordon bleu, redskin potatoes, California vegetables, fruit, bread, and dessert. Luncheon is reserved for those age 60 and older and their spouses for a minimum suggested donation of $3.00 per person.

Exercise and Balance Program
Designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults, this one-time presentation by the Michigan State University Extension will show participants safe exercises using a chair and/or counter for support. During this session on Tuesday, April 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pellston Friendship Center, participants learn to view falls as controllable, make changes to reduce fall risk at home, set goals for increasing activity, and exercise to increase strength and balance.

Closed for Employee Training on Wednesday, April 24
Friendship Centers of Emmet County will be closed on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 for a day of employee training. All services will be unavailable for the day, including bus services, in-home care and cleaning services, and Meals on Wheels. All lunch services and activities at each location will be cancelled on this day. Thank you in advance for accomodating this employee development obligation.

Diabetes Day
Learn about living with diabetes on Wednesday, May 1 with a day dedicated to control your diabetes for life. Representatives from Friendship Centers of Emmet County, Munson Home Medical Equipment, McLaren Northern Michigan, and Michigan State University Extension will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to answer questions. Educational programs about upcoming diabetes classes will take place after lunch.

Dining with Diabetes Program
Dining with Diabetes is a four-session, two hours each course designed for people at risk of diabetes or who have diabetes, as well as their family members. Through the program participants will learn how to prepare healthy meals using less fat, sodium and sugar, without reducing flavor, learn tools for managing diabetes, and the importance of diet and exercise. Participants will also have the opportunity to sample a variety of healthy foods and take home recipes. MSU Extension has partnered with the Emmet County LIONS Club to offer this program at Friendship Centers of Emmet County beginning May 8, 2019. Grief and Loss Support Group
FCEC is offering a 10-week Grief and Loss Support Group and Educational Series beginning in May. The group will be led by Lori Lind, Social Worker, and will meet every Monday at the Petoskey Friendship Center starting May 13 through July 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Group size will be limited so please sign up by calling Lori at the Council on Aging at (231) 347-3211, ext. 22.
